VGACOLOR
Release 1.2a
By Tom Gryder
VGACOLOR will allow more complete use of the 640 x 480 VGA mode
than is allowed in most off the shelf programs. Although this VGA
mode can support any 16 colors out of 262,144 possibilities
frequently programs will not let you adjust the colors. In
particular the VGA mode in Turbo Pascal version 4.0 supports only
the default EGA colors. I developed this program while working on
another Turbo Pascal application that I plan on licencing as
"shareware" in the near future, if I receive sufficient interest.
VGACOLOR is distributed as "ShareWare". This allows you to
freely accept it or copy it, unmodified and complete, for your
and others evaluation, and to do so at your own risk. If, after
evaluation, you find VGACOLOR useful you must request a registered
copy.
VGACOLOR as the name implies is designed specifically for a VGA
monitor. However if you have a EGA system and are interested
please let me know and I will consider modifying the program to run
on a EGA system, although it will be limited by the EGA color
choices.
VGACOLOR will display a full screen of 15 color boxes which can be
modified in several ways.
1) typing a "r","b","g" will increase the red, blue or green
attribute of the selected color in a pallet of 16 colors (note #16
is the background color). If upper case is used it will decrease
the color.
2) you can define a gradient of colors for example starting from
orange for color 1 and going to yellow for color 15. See sample
pallet number 2.
3) you can enter a specific red, blue, green values for a selected
color within a given pallet.
4) Type "h" for help when you start the program for more options.
To run the program simply type "vgacolor", but be sure that the
files c1.plt and egavga.bgi are in the default directory.
Some notes:
If you want your monitor left with a particular pallet on exit of
this program simply make it the active pallet before exiting the
program. Pallet number 1 of "c1.plt" represents the default EGA
settings and you may want to switch to pallet 1 before exiting so
that the default colors are restored.
The text for the menues are written in color 15 so be careful to
make sure that the background color and color 15 are not to similar,
or you will not be able to read the menu prompts. To change the
background color select color 16. This will be fixed in the next release.
When you change color numbers the new color will pick up the values
from what was last selected. That is if you are changing color 1
and switch to color 2 then color 2 will become the same as color
1 and you may then proceed to modify the new color 2.
This demo version will not allow you to save new pallets or to load
anything other than the pallets given in "c1.plt".
I hope you find this program useful, and even if you do not wish
to register it at this time please feel free to send comments via
US Mail, Compuserv or Bix.
